The Spetses Museum is housed in a beautiful 18th century mansion, once the house of Chatzigiannis-Mexis, one of the benefactors of the island and supporter of the Revolution of 1821. It is located a few minutes from Dapia. It is U-shaped and consists of ground floor and two floors.
Downstairs there are the Mexis office, the dining room and the room with the safe. Upstairs there are two spacious rooms that served as a women rooms and guesthouses, while the second floor is the standard single room of a Spetses house, the "great onda", with a superb wood-carved ceiling.
Here you will see priceless objects representing more than 4,000 years of cultural history of the island. The archaeological collection has recently been enriched by the generous offer of coins and numerous finds from various periods, which Adonis Cyrus has gathered from all parts of the island and other areas. Also, the exhibits include ceramics, a great number of icons and religious items, the flag of the Revolution, the bones of Bouboulina, historical documents and others.
Finally, features on the lifestyle of the residents-before and after the Revolution are the everyday objects that present a strong cultural interest.
